Do I need to have the lan cable connected during set up of a wifi repeater?

    For some routers, yes. For others, maybe.

    Many routers do not allow the original configuration over wifi, as the wifi can get reset in the middle of configuration, and lock out the use (and mess up the router).

    After initial setup, most routers will allow changes to some settings over wifi, but maybe not all settings.With a LAN connection, you can always configure everything in a router, all the time....

    It all depends on the router make and model...

    Nope, you can hook into it over wifi.  Follow the instructions.

    Usually involves connecting to the repeater's wifi signal, then entering the repeaters ip (something like 192.168.1.1) into a browser and you can set it up from there.

      Some routers "lock" the wifi when reset to factory default (out of the box), and require wired config first. Not all routers, but some do...
