Why are home security cameras shaped & mounted differently than commercial ones like in Starbucks which are round donut-size & flush mounted?

Update:

Home security system cameras are shaped like a handgun, extending outward on a bracket, away from a base that's connected to the mounting surface. Go into a commercial establishment you you often see small, round, donut-size cameras that are mounted totally flush to the ceiling, and look like they may have 360 degree viewing capability cause it's not just one lens that's pointed in one direction. Where do I get the small, round, flush mounted kind?

Most domestic properties do not have suspended ceilings, nor do they want circular holes drilled through their ceilings

They aren't, necessarily.  You can have domes for your home system if you want, and commercial users can have exposed cameras if they want.  Most commercial operators have domes since the camera is often trainable and you can't then be sure who it's looking at.

Because the ones in stores cover more of an area.

Or, more to the point, they can rotate internally without you knowing which way it's pointing at any given time.
