What does this really mean "Divided into highly specialized systems" when it comes to the brain?
Why is my neurology textbook so abstract or ambiguous?

It basically means that your brain has designated specific areas to do specific jobs. Kind of like picking a few top employees to be trained for specific jobs so that those jobs will be done exactly right.

There is division of labour within the brain - specific areas have specific functions - eg sensory areas for input, motor areas for output, centres for heart control (cardiac centre), breathing control (respiratory centre) etc.
