Is "Mental Anguish" a redundant sentence?

Since "Anguish" means Physical or mental pain, so does that mean adding mental to anguish is redundant?

It's not a redundant statement.  Like you said anguish can be physical or mental - so you're adding a clarifying adjective.

Mental = adjective (word that describes a noun)

Anguish = noun (person, place, thing, or idea)

No, it's a clarification stating the type pain (mental vs. physical).

Not really for a few reasons. One it isn't a sentence. it's a phrase. Second, by adding mental, it is distinct from physical anguish or general anguish.

It's not redundant. It adds specificity to anguish. Do you think rye bread is redundant?

Anguish means pain, hurt.  Just the word ‘anguish’ itself tell if the pain is mental, physical or emotional.

You mean the word itself DOESN'T tell.
