Why does society encourage college students to act immature when they're adults?

We have this idea that they need to "get it all out of their system" before entering the workforce, living on their own, etc. Problem is, 18-22 year olds who don't go to college are never given that kind of leeway, and they do fine. You'd think that a time in your life where you're paying thousands of dollars for an education that can build a future would have a pretty high standard of responsibility, but nope. My theory is, give your kid the room to get living done in the late teen years while they're under your roof, and they won't act (as much) like lunatics in college.

What do you mean?!!! College is what you make out of it, isn't that how real life works!! If you choose to work hard and be a humble person, you will get as far as possible, otherwise if you choose to be lazy, irresponsible, and develop unhealthy habits, you will fall down a black hole. Why would this be limited to only college students? I've seen many middle aged and even some seniors act very immature and unable to control their old age grumpiness

Such immaturity helps to distract the students from the fact that most college "education" is a waste of time and money.

    Who says they're "adults"?

The voting age in the U.S. was 21 in all states until WW2, and in nearly all states until 1971.

The argument was that if you were old enough to be drafted and fight in a war, you ought to be old enough to be able to be involved in government. So a law was passed prohibiting states from setting the voting age at any age over 18 (in federal elections, at least).

That doesn't mean that 18 was necessarily considered "adult" though. The legal drinking age, for example, is 21 in every state. About half of the states lowered the drinking age to 18 to coincide with the voting age, but after a sharp increase in alcohol-related car accidents caused by young adults, it was raised back to 21 again in the 1980s (this was tied to highway funding, so a few territories without interstates kept the age lower, but every state raised the drinking age to 21).

Because that is the hidden agenda behind education. It is designed to serve as an extended form of childhood, because childlike people are easier to herd and control.

It's also due to the idea that children and addicts can be encouraged to consumer more than they really should.

Teachers help ensure that the children remain childlike for the rest of their lives and another group of government workers (who I won't name) help ensure that children become addicts.

Society also has tons of alcohol commercials, does that mean it encourages alcoholism/alcoholic lifestyle where u beat your kids, stay drunk, and can't hold a job? Rap music also glorifies guns, promiscuity, and drug use. Why arent we all whores, drug dealers, and doing drive-bys on a Friday night(besides because we have to stay in to avoid coronavirus, lol)? Many things that portray certain age groups and races as doing a particular activity exist, but you are still expected to handle your business by paying attention in class as u transition from school to career. U are still expected not to commit crimes regardless of what Lil Wayne, A$AP Rocky, & Da Baby said.
