Why are cafes considered an essential business during corona?

Considering how bad the virus has gotten in ny I don’t understand how cafes are considered an essential business and requires to be open, I work part time and i’m scared to show up to work every weekend however I cannot quit because we are under staffed and they probably will not let me leave

The US isn't so bad, so far. With the alt-right fumbling around trying to kill us all it will probably GET that bad. NYC will be first up. Well, I will add. Here in California the state is closed except for essentials. Restaurants and cafes are only takeout. Starting about now the authorities intend to start going around explaining to people that they AREN'T essential. I know we have an appliance store open. Buying a washing machine? No restaurants in the state have sit down dining.

Lucky you. Every food business is closed in the U.K., all of them.

Me either - I wouldn't trust anyone else to cook for me at present.

It seems everything is essential except for the rich people.

Small businesses are still essential and pull their weight in the economy. If too many small businesses close down it could spell big trouble ; a recession.
