If the curve flattens for the coronavirus in 5 weeks, then, why are the Olympics in Tokyo cancelled?

If COVID-19 will slow down by the Summer, then, why are the Summer Olympics in Tokyo cancelled?

The curve flattening is not a decrease in new infections, it's only a leveling off in new infections. Slowing down is not enough. Ending it is necessary.

  • There are very real concerns that there might be a second wave, and nobody seems to know just how long this thing is going to stick around in parts of the world.

That only slows down the infection rate.  Don't expect it to be over for many months.

Among other things because there would be a lot of people and athletes from the Southern Hemisphere, where it will be winter by then.
