Is it possible to domesticate wild alligators as pets?

Breed them smaller like people did with dogs.

    Reptiles cant be domesticated.

Some species are tame, and tolerate handling well, tolerate captive life well..  But they are NOT "domesticated" in the same sense that a dog and cat is.

Even with species that have been captive bred for generations.   The hatchlings have all the same instincts as a wild hatchling.   They just learn quickly that humans are not predators...  Reptiles are not dumb...  Some are actually smarter than dogs.

Well if someone really wants a "smaller gator", dwarf caimans are legal in some areas.   However they are feisty.   Reptile rescue even said they'd rather handle an American Gator

No, their tiny brain doesn't work that way.  They can be trained to "come to a dinner bell", but that is very far from taming or domesticating them.  Like crocodiles, given the chance they will kill you and eat you.  That's what they do.

Alligators actually dont care for the taste of human flesh.   More often than not, they spit it out

No. They don't have a brain like a dog has. All they know is eat and mate.

It took thousands of years to get the dogs we have from wolves. Genetic engineering could get us smaller alligators faster.

You dont need to genetically engineer one..  Dwarf Caimans are in the pet trade.   Tho they tend to be pretty fiesty

I would love to have a bonsai alligator. I’d even make it a little bonsai swamp in my back yard next to the lemon tree.

No way, no reptile can be domesticated, their instinct is to kill and they wouldn't think twice about killing their owner.
