Why are cops so nervous when approaching a vehicle they chose to pull over?
You chose to pull over a law abiding citizen, you ran their plates to make sure they have no warrants or anything, and you're afraid to they might hurt you?
Despite the fact that you have a gun and would not be arrested even if you killed a dozen people for thrills.
How can such a cop protect anyone? They probably piss their pants when they hear about an active shooter if they find an average driver so scary.

99% of encounters with wanted felons occur during a 'routine' traffic stop. Officers are actually more likely to face charges after a justified shooting than the driver is if they shoot the officer without cause.

Pulling over a car is actually a very dangerous part of a police officer's job. There is no telling who is in the car or how they will react when pulled over or what they have. The occupants inside the car may have guns and use them on the officer or the driver might try to run over the officer.

They don't pull over "law abiding citizens" but those who have broken the laws. No warren is required to run a plate and officer safety is always their first concern second to the safety of those you have stopped. Truly stupid people come here and post their ignorance thinking they are being smart or something!

They're cautious because officers have been shot by people with no prior record. There was an incident in my city not long ago. A police officer pulled over a car. A man and his son were in the car. It turned out the man was a member of white supremacist groups, and those who claim the government has no authority over them. The man didn't do anything, but the boy reached into the back seat, pulled out a gun and shot the officer. He thought he was protecting his father. They all three ended up dead.
Watch Live PD- it's not uncommon for someone in a traffic stop to either pull out a gun or to try to drive off with the officer trapped by the window of the car.

What you describe does not reflect the vast majority of officers. The correct word would be cautious, not nervous and certainly not scary.

They never know what to expect during a traffic stop.
Just because they ran the plates does not mean that the person in the car is the owner.
There is also the possibility that they may be worried or feeling guilty about something the officer is not aware of.
They could have a weapon, drugs or be intoxicated.
There could also be a passenger that could pose a threat.
All of this is ignoring the fact that they could be hit by a passing car during the stop.

A completely skewed version of reality.
