The US has about 920,000 hospital beds, only a small percentage of those are Intensive Care. If a pandemic occurs it will easily overwhelm the system, Additionally healthcare workers will be infected in large numbers. A the same time; babies born, car accidents, heart attacks will continue and there won't be room for those people.
