Can you make your own bass strings?

I broke a string on my contrabass and I'm in a bit of a bind. I was wondering if it's possible to make my own strings. I've got this line used for hanging up laundry that doesn't stretch. Could I use that? Will it damage my bass?

Yes, of course you can. Just go to the Home Depot or Lowe's and get musical twine. It's available in a variety of thicknesses so buy the one that best approximates the outside diameter of the string that you broke. Good luck.

No.  Just NO. As in NO possible way this would work. You need to buy a new string - and it better be the correct one.
