Can you make your own bass strings?
I broke a string on my contrabass and I'm in a bit of a bind. I was wondering if it's possible to make my own strings. I've got this line used for hanging up laundry that doesn't stretch. Could I use that? Will it damage my bass?

Yes, of course you can. Just go to the Home Depot or Lowe's and get musical twine. It's available in a variety of thicknesses so buy the one that best approximates the outside diameter of the string that you broke. Good luck.Source(s): Musical string expert

No. Just NO. As in NO possible way this would work. You need to buy a new string - and it better be the correct one.
