How can I land a Java developer job? What projects do I need to create for my "portfolio?"?

I have taken three courses in Java programming and one in web development. I have a firm grasp of the concepts, but outside of the classes, I never created any projects of my own.

What do I need to do now to land an entry level Java developer job?

You don't need a portfolio.  You need a degree from a good school, a good transcript, and a resume that includes a summer job that you held down.  It can be a cashier at a fast-food restaurant.

You need to be able to talk about extracurricular activities.

You need to know how to sell yourself.
