Often mentioned along with Gomorrah, Sodom seems to have been the most prominent of five cities, all of which were apparently located at the Low Plain of Siddim. Ge 14:2, 3
Many scholars believe that the original sites of Sodom and the other cities of the District now lie submerged beneath the waters of the Dead Sea, though some others recently have claimed that the ruins of the cities may be identified with sites along wadis to the E and SE of the Dead Sea.

Well, they didn't bother about homosexuality. You could also eat and drink to your hearts content.

As unthinkable and repulsive as a righteous man offering his daughters to be gang rape is, I suspect that it might have happened, but on the other hand, we have rarely, if ever seen a town of men so sexually excited that they would prefer to rape to men than have their way with two females.
The whole story comes off like a very bad comic book that is trying to make a moral statement, but failing in every way.

I think it was a real town, yes. What they called a “city” is a far cry from what we would today.

It was a suburb of Atlantis.
