You could of course read the book - or, this being the year 2020, having a peak at its Wikipedia page.
Doing so, you'd read the following sentence in the second paragraph:
"Epistolary, confessional, and didactic in form, the book is presented as an autobiography of the title character [...]—a castaway who spends 28 years on a remote tropical desert island [...]."
There you go. 28 years. ;-)

He didn't say in the book?

None. The story is allegorical.

No time at all, because it's a trick question. It wasn't "his" island. When he first set foot on it, he failed to formally claim it and didn't present a signed declaration of ownership to the nearest governmental centre within the stipulated 30-day period. He was a fool. He should have known this. Bye!

I had to look it up--which you could easily have done--to know it was 28 years.
