Why is the population of Scotland so small only 5 million?

Whereas London is over 8 million and England is about 55 million in total. They argue that it’s due to Scotland’s terrain being a challenge, which is nonsense unless it’s north of Edinburgh or Glasgow. The lowlands there’s heaps of empty flat land between Edinburgh and Glasgow and towards the border. Scotland could easily expand to ten million if they built more cities and towns in the lowlands and borders. Some of it is hilly but there’s hilly places in northern England still heavily occupied.

The terrain, the weather and there are more job opportunities over the border I guess.

The "lowlands" are actually quite hilly. Peebleshire in the Scottish Borders (and lowlands), has the highest average elevation of any county in Scotland.

The population is small due to job opportunities I would think, although the SNP wants to fill it up with foreigners (as long as they're not English) on benefits.

Obviously you're not interested in an answer as you won't listen to the correct one.

So your answer is to build more cities and fill them with more people, when there is already limited employment in cities in Scotland already...so make Scotland more dependant on benefits..25% of households in Glasgow has no adults in employment.

Why?? It's much nicer having fewer people. I hate crowded cities.

Less jobs, high unemployment, no investment. Go to places like Bathgate, it’s basically a town for the unemployed on benefits since there is almost virtually no proper businesses running. Those that do have jobs would have to travel to Edinburgh or Glasgow.
