Why do people cry when animals die in movies?

It’s not like cartoon characters were ever alive to begin with.

    Because they are stupid. I'm not trying to just be offensive. That is really my opinion.

    Empathy. Or if they have actually lost a pet in real life it reminds them of how that feels.
