Why do republicans complain about families on welfare but don’t complain about high cost of living?

60 years ago, many people were raising families with a minimum wage job. And they were able to support their families without welfare. That’s because cost of living was low back then. The good old days huh?

I just called my gramps.  He is 84.  He was super glad to hear from me.  I asked if when he was 24 there were families living on minimum wage.

    - he googled the minimum wage in 1960.  It was $1.00.

His answer was no way was anyone supporting a family on $40 a week.

He lived in Omaha in 1960.  He then googled how much rent was in there in 1960.

The average rent was $91 a month....

Why don't you get your facts straight before you consider "the good ol' days".

Many years ago the high school dropout rate was very low.

Today people need ever the basic educational requirement (diploma or GED) to even be considered FUNCTIONALLY LITERATE.

Fact is, the majority of people working MW jobs should not have been even thinking of raising a family without first having a diploma.

IMO, anyone on Govt subsistence needs to be REQUIRED to get a GED or be dropped from Welfare all together.

It's not societies responsibility to help house, feed and clothe their families.

This is bogus: “60 years ago, many people were raising families with a minimum wage job”.

Irresponsible people who continue to have children, even though they can’t financially support the ones they already have,  is a big problem. Cradle to grave Reliance on government has created much fraud and waste.  Conservatives have no problem helping others as THEY give more to charity than Dems do.  We just want people to be independent and not be used as political pawns.
