Can my son be sued for car accident when he wasn't at fault and didn't hit anyone?

Update:

Apologies. Didn't finish comment and didn't realized it submitted. It was a four car accident and my son was the last car hit. He didn't hit anyone.

Yes. He can. It's a legal maneuver. It's saying others were at fault, too. Just let your insurance handle it.

Yes. Generally they sue everyone and let the courts sort it out.

Other answers are correct - anyone can be sued at any time by anybody.

Just because he wasn't 'at fault' doesn't mean that a lawyer can't figure out some angle that they can use to convince a judge that their client deserves compensation.

Other answers are also correct - you didn't give nearly enough detail, and if he 'didn't hit anyone' then how the f**k was there 'a car accident'?

Anybody can sue anybody else for anything. It is possible. Is it probable? Doubtful.

Anyone can be sued if they were involved in or caused an accident.  If he receives legal papers - he should contact his insurance agent and ask them to handle it - that's what we pay them for.

We need more details....If he didn't hit anyone, then how is it an accident?

Anybody can be sued for anything at anytime for any reason

Definitely. Fault only affects who wins AFTER someone sues. Him not being at fault would not stop someone from being able to sue, which means to file the lawsuit, not to win it.

If he did not hit anyone, then where is the car accident?

You have to explain better because I see nothing from what you just said.

To win, they must prove monetizable damage for which your son is responsible.  If they sue, you'll have to hire an attorney who - at least - should countersue for legal costs and any damages/losses (such as wages) and punitive damages.

Anyone can be sued for anything. If he did nothing then they will be unable to prove their case.
