How much better is BlueRay DVDs are to regular DVD formats discs ?

depends on what you define as "better". some people, myself included, would rather watch action movies on regular DVD format, which is MPEG2, same as broadcast television. The trade-off for Bluray is to use a codec that is a large fixed group of frames so that any motion or action in the sequence is blurred or ghosted. Bluray has an effective frame rate of 4 FPS. MPEG2 by contrast has a variable group of frames and can portray short sequences of quick action without significant blurs or ghosts.

BDs are capable of up to four times the maximum resolution of DVDs.
Remember that this depends largely on the quality of the source material;
if the original is poor, there is no practical advantage in having a high-res copy of it.

Well I remember when HD dvd's were competing with blu ray discs back in 2005. As far as regular dvds. Your talking 480p vs 4k quality. That's not including the space you can store data on them. I believe that Regular dvd's can only hold 20 gb, and Blu ray can store up to 50gb.
