What causes autism?

The rate of autism is skyrocketing. I do attribute some (not all) of it to diagnosing some kids who are just "quirky" as autistic. But we can't deny that real autism is on the rise. In your opinion, what is the reason behind the crazy high number of kids who have it. Please, no mean or sarcastic comments like "they just need a good spanking"

Fathers over 35 are three times more likely to have children with autism, bipolar disorder and schizophrenia. This is called the praternal age effect and people who want to whine that it's not true can Google it. Men are too precious for anyone to tell them that their sperm gets old and everyone wants to say "don't have kids young, live your life, travel, make your career better blah blah so all these old men are impregnating. Everyone tells women they are too old after 35 and they tell women who are 35 that they are old and having a geriatric pregnancy because women being over 35 is a known risk for Downs Syndrome but men are too precious to be told their sperm gets old and the media never reports THOSE studies. A genetic specialist said "the greatest mutational health hazard to the human genome is fertile older males." https://www.mayoclinic.org/healthy-lifestyle/getti...

It is a congenital defect but we haven't quite figured out what causes it

Autism is generally genetic, and can have very similar manifestations to ADHD, due to having a lot of shared symptoms. The rate of autism isn't on the rise, but rather increased access to information on symptoms and resources allows a lot more autistic people to seek community and assistance with any disability needs. Instead of just feeling like they're "crazy" or "broken", people are able to get assistance and have a better understanding of themselves. It is an interesting question though, and definitely has more than one answer.

Probably because a lot of the kids who have it--BOTH girls and boys are haven't been properly diagnosed that are now diagnosed. And adults too. There's some people who find out later in their life that they are on the spectrum. Even nowadays, they go unnoticed. This is true because especially with the part where girls who are autistic are underdiagnosed. It's not that "real" autism is on the rise, autism just often goes unnoticed.

Why don't you begin with substantiating your claim that autism is on the rise?

i'm suspicious of our overly clean society. In older days, kids played in the dirt all the time [I sure did]. And in even older days, kids had chores involving dirt and work involving dirt.
