# A steel strut, 40mm dia, is turned down to 20mm dia for 1/2 its length. find the ratio of the extension in the 2 parts due to axial loading?

I don't have any drawing regarding the above question. Please help me

The load will be the same in both sections. Because the area of the smaller section will be 1/4 of the area of the larger section, using the formula for axial extension, delta = P *L/A*E, well everything but A is the same. The 1/4 area will have 4X the extension
