I don't know much about cars but why does the 2020 Chevy corvette produce 490 to 495 horspower and not more for a 6.2 liter v8?

Update:

I've seen cars with around the same size engine but produce 200 to 300 hp more.

Update 2:

Shouldn't it be producing around 600 to 700 hp?

Because there is no room for the Turbo charger, and 495 goes far faster than the law allows one to go!

500 bhp is about right for a normally aspirated 6l engine. Not long ago, 200 from a 5 l was the norm in USA.

Of course you can get more out of it.,(some Subarus get 500 bhp from 2 litre (turbo)) but it would be less reliable.

490-495 horsepower is PLENTY of power for a car that weighs in at around 3500 pounds. There WILL be versions introduced later on that produce more power, but for now, the manufacturer is going for reliability and driveability.

That's just the base model. The high and super high performance models will come later. next year or the year after. A "base" model producing 500HP (rounded off) is nothing to laugh at.

No doubt Chevy want their engine to last. They could easily increase the output but reliability reduces accordingly. There is also a cost factor. Components need to be stronger and are more expensive.

And how much do you think a 6.2 liter v8 should produce?
