He could be elected again and serve another four years. Your uncle's sister is wrong.

If you mean in 2020........he's 95 and suffering from a brain tumor.
If you meant in 1980......many will say, because this or that..........but fail to mention that Kennedy actually challenged for the Nomination, splitting the party in half and virtually handing the election to a relatively weak Reagan, on a silver platter.
A house divided cannot stand..... and the Dems put on a poor show that year.......fighting EACH OTHER, rather than the B-Movie star opponent.
That is *precisely* why to this day, that a party normally does NOT challenge the sitting president, and just automatically makes them the candidate for re-election.
It does no good to split your own side, in a 50-50 contest......making it 25% , vs 25% vs, 50.%.,
simple math.........the 50% is gonna win.

Because Carter was not enough of a war-monger like all of his successors were.Source(s): www.FFF.org

Ronald Reagan simply asked ""are you better off than you were four years ago?"

He couldn't be re-elected in 1980 because he didn't get enough electoral votes. Probably had something to do with the economy sucking and letting Iran take over our embassy and hold our personnel hostage.
If you're talking about today, he couldn't be re-elected because he isn't running.

He's NINETY FIVE!..........
- MarkLv 71 month ago
Because he'd have to run first, and he has several times he has no interest in doing so.

Things were really really bad during his Presidency, and he lost to someone who could take the country in a better direction.
