How do you make raw onions taste mild and sweet?

I always buy sweet onions, but I don't know what to do to keep them raw yet mild tasting like Whattaburger uses on their sandwiches.

So ... I've actually read your question and won't say ''cook them''.

Soak them in water with some baking soda added to it for 15-20 minutes

Drain them .. pat them dry .. and then toss them in the liquid that they pickle cucumbers in (cherkins or cornichons)

If you haven't got a jar, to drain some liquid off, then use tiniest amount of vinegar with a little sugar added  .. but nothing too strong though .. a fruity one is best.

soak the cut onion in water for a while before using.  The water will remove some of the sharp onion flavor.

  • Cook them. Adding salt will pull out moisture.

    Saute them with olive oil.

The restaurant likely bathes them in sugar.

I don't consume sugar due to it being deadly.

You can soak them in milk. But I like them fried in butter the best.
