Why is surveillance and information so important why don’t we go in guns blazing to our enemies?

Intel and counter intel sounds boring.

Because a couple of things are different in reality than in the movies.

    1) Bullets pierce through good guys too in real life.

    2) If they're prepared, and you're not, this is a big disadvantage.

    3) You want to determine what legitimate targets are. Even with good intelligence, wedding parties get bombed and civilian aircraft get shot down. Nobody likes it, but collateral damage happens. You want to minimize that.

    4) How will you even know where the targets are? Generally speaking, the enemy would rather you didn't know.
