Is it wrong to address everyone with affection?

Using words such as dear, love, honey, babe, etc?

That's pretty dicey in the brave new "woke" world. So I just wouldn't.

I like it personally- but others do not. Today at work one of the other servers said that she has been complained about on numerous occasions because she calls customers "hun" or "sweetie". Some female customers become really defensive if you call their husband "hun". It just makes some people feel uncomfortable.

Yes. Affectionate terms are only appropriate in informal settings/relationships. where as many require you to address formally to show respect.  For example calling your priest or minister "babe" or the person you are interviewing with for your next job as, "honey", probably wouldn't go over well.

It would be very unprofessional and some people could view it as sexual harassment.

It would be stupid to address 'everyone' that way.

Its not wrong, but some weak people get offended easily

Apparently, we have to take their fragility into consideration, as if it's like giving up a seat to a pregnant woman
