Why are international backpackers prepared to go through 88 days of hellish farm work. Just for a second year in Australia?

The stories people have are terrible. Tales of exploitation by the hostels who control the work.

There have been hundreds of thousands of backpackers who have had good, unforgettable experiences during their 88 days but we rarely hear about them.

Inevitably, some employers are crooks and some backpackers allow themselves to be exploited, despite repeated warnings from government and other backpackers. Immigration is very responsive to reports when they get them, but if people only whinge on social media rather than using the reporting functions available to them, there's nothing they can do.
