If you mean the block is leaning against a wall at 45 degrees.
Let height (and dist of base from wall) = x
Then by Pythagoras' theorem x^2 + x^2 = 4^2
2x^2 = 16
x^2 = 8
x = root 8 = 2.83 feet.

What do you mean by a 4 foot block?
A 4 x 4 square, standing on edge, is 4 * squareroot(2) =5.66
A 4 ft high thing, leaning over by 45 degrees is
4 / squareroot(2) = 0.707

4 foot divided by the square root of two - approx 1.4 - so the height will be 2.85 foot.
