Will a CPU cooling fan taken from a 4th gen Intel work on a 9th gen?

If I take the CPU cooling fan off a 4th-gen (core i5-4670), will that still work with a 9th-gen CPU (core i7-9700)? Or is the one I need different?

as long as you replace the thermal paste and it fits the motherboard connection, it is worth trying

Yes, it will work. The cooling fan does not care what processor you are using.

Work and fit are two different things. All you can do Is check to see if it fits and the connections are the same.

Yeah, it should work. Fan headers haven't changed in many years, and the older fan is for a hotter processor, so it should provide sufficient cooling.
