You file any 1099 with the year it was received for. Any tax refund is forfeit after 3 years from the original filing date. Example: 2016 taxes were due 4/15/17. So 4/15/20, any 2016 refund not claimed is forfeit.

True, but previous post indicates poster is planning to do their *own* 1099-OID which is fraud.

Since you just asked how to fill one out, I would say never.

Repeat, a 1099-OID is issued by a bank, not an individual.  A 1040X with a handwritten 1099-OID will be immediately flagged for review by the IRS as possible fraud.

    1) Per the law, you have up to 3 years to file for a refund.

    2) Beware of the "1099 OID Scam" that is out there.

    https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/1099-OID_fraud

If someone has promised you a lot of money using a 1099OID, it is a scam. There is no large amount of money tied to your Social Security Number at the Treasury.

    https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Redemption_movement

Filing a return using a false 1099OID is considered fraud and, if someone does it, they can be fined and even tossed into prison.
