Is it fair to the AM FM radio stations in the United States?

Is it fair to the AM FM radio stations in the United States that a person only listens to Audio CD's in the car, because they hate listening to commercials on the radio? This person says that he will only listen to AM FM radio in the United States if they air no commercials the same way SiriusXM Satellite Radio airs no commercials.

    It's why I gave up on commercial radio. That and drive time DJ's who thought that they were funny.

    "This person" is an idiot. Here's why: Radio is a business just like any other. Satellite radio makes its money from monthly subscriptions.

    Terrestrial AM/FM station income derives from...yup...commercials. That's what pays for the service, just like ads pay for Yahoo, Facebook, Instagram, etc. If he doesn't want to listen that's fine but maybe if he/she understood why commercials exist the opinion would change.

    It is fair, and the radio stations know that people will do this.

    Commercials are not only very annoying, they are also being played longer than ever. It used to be 20% of air time and is now around 1/3 or more.

    Radio has survived for over 100 years, I'm sure it will continue just fine.  It has always been free to listen to.  There are radio stations without commercials.  I listen to 3 stations that are all commercial free.  One is the local NPR station, another is a college radio station, and the third is an independent community station.

    You'd have to be pretty desperate to listen to music on AM. But yes, it is fair. What would be unfair would be forcing somebody to use a product they don't enjoy and derive no benefit from, while the station gets money from advertising.

    AM/FM radio and CDs, how very last Millennium. Life isn't fair.
