Why do the people of the Republic of Ireland not want to be part of the U.K. since 1921?

Update:

Is it because of British oppression or distrust for the British because of their Protestantism and the Irish being Roman Catholic.

    Yes, British Oppression and such.

    The Irish can't stand each other, much less anyone else. Keep them isolated and drunk for safety.

    I see someone is clearly not a student of history. England's maltreatment of Ireland was nothing short of genocide.
