Can one learn violin without learning piano?

Can one learn to play the violin without first (or ever) learning how to play the piano?

    Yes, but piano would be a better instrument to at least start on because the keys are all laid out and clear to see, so learning musical notation is easier.

    Yes, you can learn to play the violin without learning how to play piano.  

    I first learned to play violin, and it was years later that I learned how to play the piano

    You can learn any instrument without the piano first.  You might be confused because experts often say that learning the piano first gives you a great foundation for further study - you learn both treble and bass clef, you can see everything in front of you, you learn how to play melody and harmony or counterpoint, both in rhythm, plus the usual scales, chirds, arpeggios, sight reading - so after all that, a one-note-at-a-time Instruments is easier to focus on. But play what you LOVE!

    Of course you can learn violin first. Lots of people do that. Just get lessons with a professional violin teacher.
