What is the song “Just What I Needed” by “The Cars” about?

It’s hard to tell by the lyrics.

Primary songwriter, the late Ric Ocasek, wanted the lyrics to be this obscure, and was quoted as saying the entire song was written in fiction without being based on anyone.

a pregnancy scare. his girlfriend missed her period. that is what he means by "i needed someone to bleed" she is talking in her sleep because of anxiety about the issue, and wasting all his time because the concerns are all for not when she finally does do just what he needed and start her period.

(i'm just joking around. without actually looking up the lyrics i'd say its just a love song.)

By the lyrics, it's EXTREMELY easy to tell what it is about. The person Ric Ocasek is singing about is "just what he needed" at that moment.
