    Because that would be selfish.

People who have a question are supposed to do a search to find out if it has been asked and answered already, and only when it hasn't,  post it themselves.

Now if only those users were smart enough to do that and the search worked.... [sometimes I see a question and remember it , but putting it in verbatim doesn't find it...]

It has to stay here for 100 years until a new yahoo answers board decides it is time to change the bylaws. They will have to go through lengthy proceedings and lots of red tape before it is all removed and they can move on with a smoother system. By then, the system will be 59 upgrades back and take 19 years to fix.

Because that would defeat the original purpose of the site, which was to be a repository of knowledge/experience for people to reference. Back in the 'old days' on YA it was possible for a user to delete their question. It encouraged trolls to post inappropriate questions, then delete them before getting reported enough to be removed. It also upset respondents who would take the time to type out a lengthy, detailed reply to someone's question, only to have the OP remove the question when they got the answer they wanted. It caused many users to stop putting so much effort into giving quality answers, and enough complaints were made that Yahoo made the change to stop allowing questions to be removed once they had any answers.

Once a question has an answer it is the property of Yahoo and can not be deleted as you agreed to when you signed up up for an acount.

The whole point of YA was to have a searchable data base of answers to questions, that and why would anyone spend time giving a good answer if the knew it would be deleted. .. they wouldn’t.  YA’s site, their rules.

     Two reasons.

     1. Yahoo went back to the original purpose of YA - to build a database of questions and answers. Deletions defeat that purpose. Yahoo gets paid by activity on YA, so they want to keep it.

     2. There was great complaining because users were spending time giving good complete answers, just to have them deleted. Users were starting to think they were wasting their time and started skipping questions or giving short answers. This hurt the people really looking for answers.

Most users also do not understand the search engines pick up these questions quickly, so even deletion did not remove posts from the web unless it was done quickly.

You can though. When you ask a question just leave it open and open a new tab to continue using the site normally. After you've gotten sufficient answers, you can decide to award BA or not, but after that, all you have to do is go back to the tab you left open, and since it still shows that there are 0 answers, you can delete it. This is the best method for point gaming as well since it leaves behind no evidence at all. As for questions that have already been asked your only option is to figure out the code for the "Delete question" option, then open the page of the question you want to delete and inject the code.
