6" over height.  When everything is designed for an 8 foot ceiling...meaning the drywall board, the plywood sheets , studs,

As it is, it is a 96" stud put on top of a 1 1/2" 2x4 floor plate and on top is another1 1/2"plate  That adds up to 99" Subtract the drywall ceiling1/2" and maybe the floor covering 1/2" so it is 98"  Subtract 1/2" popcorn ceiling is 97 1/2" and the wall drywall is lifted off the floor  a half inch  So the height is now 97".   (Somewhere I lost an inch) because I am still 1" too high.???  Maybe the carpet is thicker ?  as it usually has a 1/2" underlay and then 3/4" carpet.   Then the wood shrinks as it dries .   It is close to that number of 96".  The baseboard hides the floor gap of the drywall.  Maybe forgot some "String theory calculations"

Just more space to be cooled and heated compared to an 8 foot ceiling.

Frank Lloyd wright had very low ceilings in

His Usonian homes. He tried to keep the

Cost low so average working people could

Afford them. They were about 8 ft in the

Living room and I think about 7 ft in the

Bed rooms. So you could go a little smaller

If you like. If your state building codes allow

    It.
