Is it legal to build an oil refinery in my backyard?

The price of gas is outrageous. I want to make my own.

    There's not enough room in your back yard to hold both an oil derrick and a refinery. Plus, neither your neighbors nor the zoning department would approve of it.

    If you have the money and can get the necessary permits, then go for it.

    No.. Your backyard isn't zoned for oil refining.

    You do know that below a certain size refinery,  it takes more energy to run it than it produces?  You will soon be in the hole to electric company compared to what you would spend on gasoline at a pump.  And that does not include all the pipes, pumps and tanks you would need to crack crude oil, and a skilled person to build and run it.

    Its not even possible. Refining crude oil us a massive and complicated operation. Its not something you could set up in your back yard

    Permits permits permits. You're going to require many permits.
