In a hole in the ground, with notices on the door reading

    "No Hawkers, Canvassers or DWARVES"

    "NO QUESTS UNDERTAKEN"

    "WIZARDS WILL BE SHOT."

There lived a Hobbit, who wasn't at home because he was out visiting his mistress, Fifi La Grenouille who was a cordon bleu cook and a sexual athlete of no mean abilities, so when a crew of disreputable looking visitors arrived no one answered the door, and after hanging about a bit, kicking the door and swearing they all went away.

And they all lived happily ever after.

Are you attempting to confirm that summarizing the first chapter of the book was your homework assignment? None of us could know for sure, but I'm going to say that clues point to that being the case. Off you go then.
