If a monumental mason made a spelling error on a headstone, would it be a grave mistake?

Mr Spanks was buried with his wife Katherine. The mason missed out the 'and' so the headstone read Ronald Spanks his beloved wife Katherine.

Yes , the whole Yard would laugh upon it , instead of crying in Scotland Yard.

Yorkhire joke :
A man has lost his wife. He tells the sexton to put on her headstone " She was Thine" (ie God's - she was very religious).
But when he comes to look at the stone, it says "She was thin".
"For God's sake put an E on it !"
So when the man comes back the inscription reads : "Ee she was thin".
