why is the word poop used by adults?

It is a very childish word that has become a household term. Ridiculous.

Update:

"Doody" would be an appropriate term.

As for ads, the media won't let you say s***. What else is there they will accept that companies are willing to call it?

Whatever floats your boat.  I pretty rarely use the word myself, because I have no young children around anymore.

Because it's clear, and short, and understood by Dutch folk.

    What's the alternative?  Excrement? Faeces?

    I've never heard "doody"

I feel like a lot of alternatives to the term poop are either overly crass or overly medical.

Are you kidding? So every time we need to mention it, you'd rather say excrement or bodily waste? Poop is 1 syllable. That's why.
