3 year old, sudden onset of whooping cough and wheezing?

My boy went to bed healthy and happy six hours ago, suddenly he wakes up with an awful cough and his breathing sounds laboured.

Given paracetamol and warm juice.

He is falling asleep again but still coughing and breathing heavy.

Any ideas?

Literally out of the blue no warning.

Not asthmatic, no known diseases or conditions.

Very healthy active boy.

No 3 hear old should ever suffer from whooping cough as thet should have had the vaccination (DTP) against it when younger. If you didn't get your son vaccinated (with the full course of three injections) then you are very irresponsible.

Call your doctor for advice. Don't take him out of the house unless cleared by the doctor as you don't want him spreading any infection to others.

Could be RSV, could be pneumonia, could be anything BUT labored breathing is ALWAYS a medical work up in kids. You need to be seen ASAP.

rub Vicks on the chest only never to

be inhaled by a toddler via steam as it

is too strong for the lungs, it will burn the lungs

you need to take the boy to the ER right now

i hope he has been regularly vaccinated

for all the childhood diseases like diptheria,

    measles, tetanus,TB etc

This happened to my daughter when she was a toddler, just seem to come on immediately.  Her little chest seemed to cave in as she tried to breathe. I took her to the ER and she was admitted for eight days and put into an oxygen tent.  Don't wait around, take him now.

Try a vaporizer with a vicks product in the steam.

My idea would be to take him to the hospital.  Not asking on here as though anyone knows.
