Why do people say the slept like a baby when babies wake up every hour screaming??

    It's a metaphor indicating that they were calm and relaxed until they waked up.

    Keep in mind that "baby" refers to at least a 1 year old and up to a 2 year old, and the majority of babies are sleeping through the night by 1. Not all, but most. But what the saying is referring to is more about the quality of rest... if a baby is in a deep sleep you could have him or her at a rock concert and baby wouldn't wake up. Babies grow at an incredibly fast rate compared to the rest of their childhood, so when they sleep, they SLEEP.

    you're contradicting yourself. you said people say something about the "sleeping", but you don't agree with "waking up" as the reason instead. irrelevant.
