Get a copy of "Keys to Drawing" by Bert Dodson and work through the exercises. It's an excellent drawing primer and the one my art teacher parents always used and recommended.
Practice drawing still-lifes and landscapes. You might want to go to an art gallery and sketch some sculptures too. Tracing is not an effective method and nor is drawing from photographs generally, because the most important drawing skills are observing and analysing what you see. You need to learn how to break down 3D objects to a series of lines and shapes on a flat piece of paper. Drawing from photos cuts out that most important part, and with tracing no thought is required at all. An exception is an exercise where you take pictures from newspapers or magazines and draw or trace the edges of areas of colour like a contour map and compare to the original to help you think about breaking things down into shapes when there aren't clear edges. That's not the place to start though.

Hey, I did this Anime Sketch course on Skillshare when I was starting out:
It covers the basics really well. You get 2 subscription for free so you can actually do a few more courses and then just cancel your subscription without spending a dime!!
Hope this helps!

Get a stack of scratch paper, a pen or pencil, and start doodling. THAT is how most people start. Once you feel comfortable with sketching, start trying to draw from something in real life. Keep the best 10% every week. After a while, looking back through them, you'll see how well you're improving.

Do you have a community college or community center that offers classes? You might want to take an introduction to drawing class.

start by copying pictures by using tracing paper, this will help you get the feel of the pencil and your eyes will see more details on the picture. Hope this helps, Sam
