Who's a better hockey player Connor McDavid or Brett Hull?

Brett Hull is no longer playing hockey. Impossible to compare mid-career with a completed one. They also play(ed) different positions and different roles.
Hull was one of the greatest snipers the game has seen. He was no slouch in the assist department, either.
McDavid is a center and a playmaker. On his current trajectory and barring serious injury - Hull did not miss much time - he should greatly surpass Hull in assists but will fall well short in goal-scoring.
Comparing both in their prime, I would pick Hull before McDavid. Nobody was as good as seeing the open spot on the ice before it was open and being there and firing a one-timer than Hull, with the possible exception of Mike Bossy. No one was better at seeing everything on the ice before anyone else and knowing where to find that open man than Gretzky. Had Gretzky and Hull been paired for ten years, who knows what their numbers would look like.

Brett Hull coz he’s legendary with two SC (one for Dallas in 98-99 and one for Detroit in 01-02), and many seasons as a scoring machine for St. Louis in the late 1980s/early 1990s.

Connor McDavid is better, but it remains to be seen who will have ended up having the better career.
