What can I do if my employer is putting us danger by making us park in a unsecured and unsafe parking lot?
I currently work at a job that is making us park on a far away lot right next to the homeless shelter starting in a week. Its always got people in the street at night and people in the parking lot doing drug deals and tweaking out. We have had 3 cars broken Into in the previous lot that was closer to work and now they're putting us in danger being right next to the commotion. There is no security cameras, all the lights are dim and there is no security driving though ever. Everyone at work is concerned and we feel extremely unsafe. We usually leave the restaurant around 11-11:30 pm and that's when everything is really bad. I live on the big island Hawaii, what can we do to make sure we leave work safe and dont have to worry about being attacked? Is there any laws helping is with this?

Tell your employer that you want someone to escort you to your car. He should supply another employee, preferably a supervisor. If he refuses, go to the police and tell them of the problem and ask them to get rid of the problem. Until then and if your employer won't have someone escort you to your car, park where you aren't supposed to. If you are caught, tell him its either that or you will consult a lawyer, because you are not going to put yourself in a position where it is almost guaranteed that you will be assaulted.Source(s): Certified Paralegal, with 25+ years' experience & with Employment law experience.

Buy a gun, travel in groups, take public transportation, carpool, or find another job.

Unfortunately correcting this problem is probably not one the company can resolve. You have to remember a business is ONLY there to make money. If the cost of correcting this problem makes that impossible, they cannot and will not do anything. If that's the case you have weigh your options of taking your chances with your car of findng work somewhere else. You have no legal standing to do anything else.

They have no obligation to provide a place to park. Park somewhere safer if you want to.

Go to a gun range and get educated on gun safety.
Buy a gun and practice, practice and practice.
Get a carry permit!
BTW, where are the police for break ins and drug deals?
If you don't like guns, get a German Shepherd as a guard dog!
