Since Garrett can't prove his claim of racial slurs by Rudolph, should the NFL have barred any discussion of it outside the appeal hearing?

It shouldn't matter anyways - sticks and stones.

No it shows the true character of Garrett trying to weasel out of punishment by pulling the race card!

Doesn’t really matter if someone in the appeal leaked it as what happened here.

From a PR standpoint.....and remember, today's NFL is all about protecting "The Shield" as a single entity.... it probably does the League more good than harm...

24 hours after the incident, it was being called one of the ugliest on-field acts in the game's history...many were comparing it to the NBA's "Malice at the Palace" brawl whose anniversary just happened to be this week.  Pundits were talking about an "out of control" locker room and the game's inherent violence.

By injecting race into the equation, even falsely, the public discourse naturally broadens away from the individuals, the teams and the game itself.  For every talking head that bashes Garrett (or more-likely, Garrett's agent and handlers) for "needlessly playing the race card," you're going to have an equal number of heads saying "race is an important issue...we should at least talk about it."

Remember the whole Ritchie Incognito "hazing" incident?  Remember how it was addressed?  Incognito was ordered to take "sensitivity" and "anger management" training.... In short, the NFL framed what could have been an indictment on league culture as a personal problem....

Similarly, now that race has been introduced, this becomes a "player" and "social" problem ("why would Rudolph say such a thing" vs. "why would Garrett use it as an excuse") instead of a League problem..... The Shield can continue to pretend to be all about the game and above it all..

Falsely playing the race card is a despicable cowardly tactic that liberals invented and have become very comfortable with.

How is the NFL going to do that?  I'll discuss whatever I want to discuss!

Democrats don't believe proof is necessary anymore

It probably would have been better for the NFL.
