A ball is thrown horizontally from the top of a building 14.8 m high. The ball strikes the ground at a point 72.5 m from the base of the building.
Find the y component of its velocity just before it strikes the ground.Answer in units of m/s.

vertical velocity is the same as if you dropped it.
v = √(2gh) = √(2•9.8•14.8) = 17.0 m/s
falling object starting from rest
h is height in meters, t is time falling in seconds,
g is acceleration of gravity, usually 9.8 m/s²
v is velocity in m/s
h = ½gt²
t = √(2h/g)
v = √(2gh)
h = v²/2g
v = gt
