    1/x+4=6

    Just add four to both sides

    1/x+4+4 = 6+4

    1/x + 8 = 10

    x = 0.5 and 1/0.5 + 6 = 8 and so 1/0.5 + 8 = 10

    :-

    As given MUST be read as :-

    ( 1/x ) + 4 = 6

    (1/x) + 8 = 10

    In the first one, what added to 4 gives you 6?  x = 1/2

    Substitute into the second equation.  10.
