How does baggage work when you have multiple airlines (via layovers)?

I booked an international trip from Los Angeles to Osaka using Expedia. I selected United, which showed that I was allowed 2 checked bags and 1 carry-on. When I made the reservations, I saw that I was assigned multiple airlines coming back.

I ll be returning from Osaka using Nippon, stopping in Vancuver, Canada for a 3-hour layover, then I ll be heading back to Los Angeles using Air Canada.

Does all my baggage get handled by United, or will I be subject to each of the airline s baggage policies?

Thank you.

The checked baggage policy of the airline that issued the ticket should apply to your whole trip.

ANA and Air Canada are members of the Star Alliance with United.
