Youtube does not have any way to download songs from it.  They do want you to be able to do that.  You have install a separate program to do that.  They work by "playing" the song or video in the background and then recording it.  they then save that recording rather then the actual file on Youtube.

Unless a YT file is specifically MARKED as available for download, it can only legally be live-streamed, which is the whole point of YT. Making a local copy would be a copyright infringement, as a violation of the terms of use.

Google 'youtube to mp3' and loads of sites will come up, all you need to do is just paste in the video url.

Depending on which browser you use you may be able to install some plug-ins that will do what you're looking to do. There's some websites that will also pull the audio from a url you provide and offer you a copy of it, OR you can go old-school and use 2 computers and an aux audio cable: play on one, record onto the other.

That would literally be impossible. You cannot "download" a song without "downloading" something, ie, the song.

Many people refer to "download" when the mean "copy". A live-stream YT video isn't making another "copy" other than the temporary segments briefly in the I/O buffers.
